The history of this game dates back to 1530s Italy. In this period, a game called “Il Gioco del Lotto d'Italia" was released. The popularity of the game has increased rapidly. By the late 1770s, it crossed borders for the first time, spreading to France as “Le Lotto”, offering an alternative version made by a young Frenchman. He modified the bingo cards into the standard three-rows, nine-column ones we see today in 90-ball bingo. Lotto then found its way to Germany in the 1800s and then the UK.

How Does Bingo Work?

The aim of the game is to cross off as many numbers on your bingo card as possible, if not all. The bingo caller will read out numbers from the bingo balls and players need see if there is a match on their cards. If there is, this number must be crossed off, or dabbed out, repeating this until the game ends and someone wins. There are usually three winners - 1L (one line), 2L (two lines) and FH (full house). The latter is when all numbers have been dabbed out.
